Frequently asked technical and commercial questions
Key information for engineering, maintenance, procurement and construction teams.
Can you regenerate tooling manufactured by another supplier?
Yes, subject to an inspection of the tool and a review of the available documentation or reference component.
What information is required for a quotation?
Ideally, provide a drawing or 3D model, material requirements, expected tool life and information about the production process.
Do you modify existing injection moulds?
Yes. Feasibility is confirmed after a technical assessment of the mould, the required change and the available documentation.
Can you manufacture a single mould component?
Yes. We can manufacture an insert or another component from a drawing, 3D model or worn reference part.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send a 2D drawing or 3D model together with the material, quantity, tolerances and required delivery date.
What are your maximum CNC turning dimensions?
Our Okuma GENOS L3000-e accommodates turning diameters up to 390 mm and lengths up to 1,100 mm. It is equipped with a Y axis, driven tooling, a Ø275 mm chuck and Ø70 mm bar capacity. Feasibility and achievable accuracy are confirmed after reviewing the geometry, material and workholding.
Which documentation formats do you accept?
We accept STEP/STP models and DWG or DXF documentation. For other formats, the data-transfer method is agreed before quotation.
Do you manufacture short production runs?
Yes. We accept one-off components, prototypes and short runs. Commercial viability and lead time depend on geometry, material and quantity.
When should EDM be considered?
Typical applications include hardened materials, narrow slots and geometries that are difficult to manufacture by conventional milling.
What are your EDM working ranges?
The FANUC ROBOCUT accommodates workpieces up to 1,050 × 820 × 300 mm and 1,000 kg, while the Mitsubishi MV1200S accommodates up to 810 × 700 × 215 mm and 500 kg. Both machines provide wire inclination up to 30° per side. The DIAX DM-250 N sinker EDM accommodates workpieces up to 555 × 330 × 220 mm. Machine selection and achievable parameters are confirmed against the specific documentation.
Can we order dimensional inspection as a standalone service?
Yes. We provide independent measurement services as well as inspection within tooling and machining projects.
Does the stated accuracy apply to every component?
No. Achievable accuracy depends on factors including geometry, component size, workholding, inspection strategy and environmental conditions. The applicable range is confirmed before work begins.
How should the documentation be prepared?
Provide a toleranced drawing and identify the features that require inspection.
Can you repair tooling without documentation?
Yes. We can inspect and measure the tool and reconstruct a component from a worn reference part. The final scope depends on the tool condition and functional requirements.
Can an urgent repair be arranged?
Urgent requests are assessed according to current capacity. Customers can also arrange contract-based 24/7 priority production support in advance.
Can we approach you without a finished drawing?
Yes. Engineering support can begin with structuring the requirements and developing a suitable technical solution.
Can Silma prepare technical documentation?
Yes. The scope and format of documentation are agreed for each project.
Is the service available to every customer?
Yes. Any customer may use the service after agreeing the conditions and signing the relevant contract or service plan.
How quickly can a repair or component be completed?
Under suitable conditions, completion may be possible within a few hours of notification. Actual timing depends on the agreement, work scope, material availability and customer requirements.
Which geographical area does the service cover?
The primary service area is Silesia and the surrounding region.
Do you publish a list of automotive customers?
Customer names and logos are published only where their use has been authorised.
Do you undertake urgent repairs?
Urgent cases are assessed individually. Customers can also arrange contract-based 24/7 priority production support in advance.
Can you reproduce a component without documentation?
Manufacture from a reference component may be possible depending on its condition and the functional requirements.
How should an urgent problem be reported?
Contact us by phone and provide photographs, machine information, a description of the symptoms and any available dimensions.
Is a 3D model required?
A 3D model is helpful, but feasibility can also be assessed from a drawing or through technical consultation.
Can you assist with material selection?
Yes. Material selection for the intended operating conditions is part of our engineering support.
Do you manufacture components intended for direct food contact?
Feasibility is confirmed individually after reviewing material requirements, documentation, operating environment and intended use.
Can a machine component be reproduced without documentation?
In many cases, yes. We can inspect and measure a worn reference part. Feasibility and the information required are confirmed after assessment.
Do you sign non-disclosure agreements?
Yes. We can sign an NDA before the complete project documentation is disclosed.
Can you accept every defence-sector project?
No. Every enquiry is subject to technical and formal assessment. Before acceptance, we verify the documentation, material, acceptance requirements and the ability to perform the work lawfully.
Do you provide design, manufacture and installation?
Yes. The division of responsibilities and the scope of design, documentation, manufacture, delivery and installation are agreed individually for each development.
Where do you provide installation services?
Installation feasibility and delivery arrangements are confirmed after reviewing the location, work scope and programme of the specific development.
